CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Ohio Christian enjoyed a 90-82 victory in their home opener at the Maxwell Leadership Center on Thursday night, ousting the #2 seed at the NCCAA National Tournament from last season.

Northland struck first as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game.  The Trailblazers regrouped behind a trio of three point baskets by Nic Baker and JJ Smith as they took a 42-24 lead with 2:20 remaining in the first half.  Northland stormed back and closed the half with a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to 12 point at 46-34 heading into halftime.

OCU would endure several Northland runs in the second half as Anthony Lewis and Micah Baines carried the offensive load for the visiting Pioneers.  The Trailblazers stayed in front for most of the second half until a three point basket by Josh Conover cut the lead to 75-73 with 4:00 remaining.

OCU answered with an Evan Mills layup and a Wesley Russell free throw to put OCU back in front 85-78.  Northland was forced to foul after a missed three pointer and OCU finished off the game at the free throw line, winning 90-82.

The win is the 24th win in a row against NCCAA Division II competition, a winning streak dating back to March of 2012.  JJ Smith and Wesley Russell led the Blazers with 24 points each.   Evan Mills added a dozen points in the win.  Nic Baker finished with 9 points on 3 of 6 shooting from downtown.
