CIRCLEVILLE, OH - After opening River States Conference play with a 3-0 win over Rio Grande last Tuesday, the Lady Trailblazers entered Saturday hoping to add on two key non-conference wins to their early 2017 resume. Unfortunately, tough competition from both Anderson University and Marietta College would lead to two losses for OCU sending them to 8-8 on the year.
The first match of the day would be against the Pioneers of Marietta College. The match would be played fairly evenly early, but a late push in set one would send the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead, winning 25-17. After dropping the first set, the Lady Trailblazers would struggle to find their rhythm, as Marietta would go on to win 3-0. Megan Morrison and Dakotah Zaph would lead OCU's offensive attack, each totaling four kills in the match. Karee Neff would lead the team in digs, finishing with 11.
In OCU's second match of the day, the Lady Trailblazer would face the Ravens of Anderson University. Despite dropping the first set by nine, OCU would battle back and play a quality second set. The score would bounce back and forth, however a late charge from the Ravens would push them to 25 first. Lexi Jacobs would lead the way in the day's second match, leading the team in kills. Katie Bush would also have a good day, finishing with 12 assists and eight digs.
"We were up against two strong opponents today," said Head Coach Danielle Heffernan. "I thought we came out strong with some great defensive plays against some good offense. We will need to learn from today as we more into the rest of our conference slate coming up in October." The Lady Trailblazers next game is scheduled for Tuesday evening at home against Indiana University East.
