WINONA LAKE, IN - The Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers came into Tuesday evening hungry to make a statement, and that is exactly what they would do. Facing the Lancers of Grace College, OCU would fire on all cylinders, rebounding from a tough weekend to take the 1-0 victory on the road.
The Lancers, who have received votes within the NAIA Top 25. would struggle to score on the Lady Trailblazers' defense, as Emily Boyd would save 15/15 shots on goal to keep Grace scoreless. The deciding goal would come in the first half in the 23rd minute by Rachel Lawwell, who would be assisted by Brooke Lezzotte. As a team, OCU would be held to three shots on goal, but Lawwell's first half score would be just enough to pull of the 1-0 upset.
"Today was a huge win for us," said Head Coach Jake Warren. "Grace is a great team and gave us everything we could handle. I thought our girls responded very well after a disappointing weekend, and being a little short handed because of injuries, I am really proud of the collective effort to pull this one out."
The Lady Trailblazers now stand at 3-4 heading into conference play. They will open the RSC season on Saturday on the road at IU East. This is the Red Wolves first season with a soccer program.
