WATERTOWN, WI - The 10th ranked OCU Lady Trailblazers (5-6) headed west for an NCCAA Top Ten matchup with 5th ranked, Maranatha Baptist, on Friday afternoon, and it proved to be a memorable match.
Ohio Christian got on the board first with a pair of goals by sophomore phenom, Katelyn Danner. Danner found the back of the net after an assist from Megan Wellman to give OCU a 1-0 lead. Danner then scored from a long punt kick from keeper Lexi Shafran, who was credited with her first assist of the season to push the Trailblazer lead to 2-0.
OCU was in control of the game with a 2 goal advantage. Maranatha stormed back to tie the game at 2-2 in the second half. Time expired at the end of regulation, pushing the match to overtime. With the score still knotted up at 2-2 after the first overtime, the two teams headed into double overtime.
In the second extra session, Maranatha put the ball in the back of the net to claim the comeback doubtle overtime win. The Trailblazers came away with a tough loss, but left the field knowing that they can compete with the top teams in the nation at their level.
The Trailblazers will take the field again on Tuesday as they host NAIA Shawnee State for a 2:00 PM match.
