MARIETTA, OH - The Trailblazers knocked off NCAA affiliated Earlham College by a score of 102-69 on Saturday, in the final day of the Marietta College Shriners Tournament. It was a dominating performance from start to finish for the Trailblazers, who picked up their first win against against an NCAA opponent.
Ohio Christian jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the opening 7 minutes of play, forcing an Earlham timeout. OCU extended their lead to as many as 20 points in the first half and went into halftime with a comfortable 50-31 advantage. Joe Collier went an impressive 4 of 4 from the field in the first half and led OCU with 8 points heading into the intermission.
The Trailblazers continued their domination in the second half, pushing their lead to 36 points at the 10:40 mark, with the score at 86-50. OCU would remain in control the rest of the way as they went on for the 102-69 victory.
The Blazers used a balanced offensive attack as they had six different players score in double figures. Ernie McCoy had a team high 15 points in the win. Nic Baker capped off a strong weekend with 14 points on 4 of 7 shooting from downtown. Evan Mills, Wesley Russell, and Kris Carius each tallied a bakers dozen with 13 points. Joe Collier finished with 10 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field.
Ohio Christian will now prepare for their Tuesday night game against Malone University, an NCAA Division II program. The game is set to start at 7:30 PM in Canton, Ohio.
