CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Head Coach Dave Hopewell is leaving the OCU sideline after two historic seasons at the helm of Trailblazer volleyball. Hopewell made the announcement to his team and to the OCU administration this past week, a few weeks after closing out a very successful 2013 season.
Hopewell quickly built an NCCAA national contender at OCU after inheriting a struggling program in the summer of 2011. In just his second season, Hopewell led the Trailblazers to a Mid-East Region Championship in a historic five-set win at home over Kentucky Christian University. The regional title and subsequent NCCAA National Tournament appearance were the first ever for OCU volleyball.
The Trailblazers followed their historic run in 2012 by going a school-record, 27-13 during the 2013 season. The 2013 season goes down in the record books as the best finish in program history as far as overall record.
"Coach Hopewell injected new life and a contagious enthusiasm to OCU volleyball during his time here," stated OCU Athletic Director, Ben Belleman. "His contribution to the program is beyond measure and we are thankful for all he has done to take the program to where it is today."
A national coaching search will begin immediately as OCU seeks out top candidates to build upon the foundation established by Coach Dave Hopewell.
With state-of-the-art facilities, quality academic programs, and enthusiastic administration support, it is expected that there will be strong interest in the women's volleyball head coach position.
