UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH - The Lady Trailblazers took on undefeated John Carroll University (8-0) on Monday afternoon and wrapped up their first semester schedule with a 92-55 loss to the NCAA Division III power. Ohio Christian fell victim to a very slow start to open the game on the road and was never able to recover.
OCU found themselves down early on as John Carroll opened up with a 11-0 run to start the game. The host Blue Streaks then took a 24-3 lead at the 10:45 mark of the first half. The Lady Blazers fought back on got their offense going in the final ten minutes of the first half as they scored 20 points down the stretch, compared to 23 for John Carroll. The Blue Streaks went into halftime with a 47-23 lead.
A jumper by Asia Woodson with 8:30 remaining in the game brought OCU to within 28 points with JCU leading 69-41. The Blue Streaks rallied once again with a 14-6 run to take an 83-47 lead. OCU answered back with a 5-0 run of their own, highlighted by a Maddie Joseph three pointer with just over 3:00 minutes remaining, but it would be too little and too late. Trailing 82-53 in the final minutes, OCU was unable to get any closer as John Carroll went on for their 8th straight victory.
OCU lost the battle of the boards by a margin of 51-28. Ohio Christian struggled from the field, shooting 17 of 57 for 29.8% while the Blue Streaks went 33 of 66 from the field for 50.0%.
Asia Woodson scored a game high 24 points while going 9 of 10 from the free throw line. Maddie Joseph went 5 of 14 from three point range to tally 17 points. Shekinah Alexander added 9 points and 4 assists.
OCU is back in action on January 9th when they host Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 8:00 PM.
