POWELL, TN - Ohio Christian completed their weekend road trip to Knoxville, Tennessee with a win at Crown College. OCU came away with the 83-71 victory for their 31st win against NCCAA Division II teams. The Blazers are also now 6-0 in the Mid-East Region this year as they are the midst of a 7 game winning streak, their longest of the season so far.
The Trailblazers had to work hard at Crown in the first ten minutes as the host Crusaders battled to stay within arms reach of the top ranked Blazers. With 9:33 to play in the first half, Ohio Christian was knotted up with Crown in a 15-15 game. OCU would rally and put together a 14-4 run to take a 42-29 lead heading into the intermission.
Ohio Christian kept the momentum in the second half and pushed their lead to as many as 21 points. Leading 64-43 with just over ten minutes remaining, OCU was in control. Crown refuesed to go quietly and fought hard to the end but the Trailblazers proved to be too much as they went on to win 83-71.
OCU was led by Wesley Russell who had a game-high 28 points and 9 rebounds. Ernie McCoy added a spark with 15 points and 3 steals. Evin Bartlett added 9 points while JJ Smith tossed in 8 points. Danny Schrock tallied 7 points while Evan Mills finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds.
The Trailblazers won the battle of the boards by a margin of 44-30. Crown was led by Chad Mainous with 26 points.
OCU is back in action on Friday night as they host Morthland College for an 8:00 PM game in the Maxwell Leadership Center. Morthland College is a Division I member in the NCCAA.
