CEDARVILLE, OH - The top-ranked Trailblazers wrapped up the regular season at NCAA Division II, Cedarville University, on Thursday night. Despite 20 points from NCCAA All-American, Wesley Russell, OCU was topped by Cedarville by a score of 98-61. Ohio Christian finishes the regular season at 20-10 and will now prepare for the postseason, beginning with the Mid-East Region Tournament this weekend.
Cedarville jumped out to an early 17-2 lead to open the game to take control early. The Trailblazers found their offensive rhythm later in the half but could not chip away at the Yellow Jacket lead. A layup by Evan Mills with 1:58 remaining in the first half, put the score at 49-30 with OCU trailing. Cedarville then answered back, closing the half on a 10-2 run to reclaim the momentum once again.
An Ernie McCoy three pointer with 12:50 remaining in regulation capped off a 12-4 OCU run and trimmed the Cedarville lead to 22 at 68-46. That is as close as the Blazers would get as Cedarville went on for the win 98-61 win.
Ohio Christian will now focus on the Mid-East Region Tournament this weekend. The Blazers are the #1 seed and will open up against the winner of the Crown vs Johnson quarterfinal game. The Trailblazers will receive a bye in the quarterfinals and play their semifinal game at 4:00 PM on Friday.
