RIO GRANDE, OH - OCU baseball stayed close with NAIA Rio Grande for one game during their Tuesday night doubleaheader but came away with a pair of losses to the Red Storm.
Host Rio Grande ran away with game one, winning 9-0 as the OCU offense managed only a pair of hits in the game compared to ten hits for the Red Storm. Caleb Penney and Shawn Stallworth connected on the only hits for the Trailblazers.
In game two, OCU found new life behind the pitching of Zach Williams. Wiliams scattered 5 hits over 4 and 2/3 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. After Rio took a 3-0 lead in the opening three innings of play, OCU put together a small rally to cut the lead to 3-1.
Brian Daria started the top of the 4th inning with a single and advanced to second base on a ground out. Shawn Stallworth then came through with two outs as he singled to left center, scoring Daria for the RBI. The Blazers were on the board and trailed 3-1 but it wouldn't be enough. Rio added a run in the bottom of the 6th and went on for the 4-1 victory.
The Trailblazers (1-17) are back in action on Thursday as they host Clark State Community College. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
