SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Trailblazers once again enjoyed a sensational start from Chris McIlroy (JR/Circleville, OH) as OCU defeated Clark State in game one by a score of 3-1. The 6-4 hurler was stellar as he scattered 7 hits and tallied 6 strikeouts in the win.
The OCU offense gave McIlroy the necessary run support as the Trailblazers put together 3 hits and 5 walks in game one. Caleb Penney (FR/Columbus, OH), David Wright (SO/Piqua, OH), and Brian Daria (SO/Villa Hills, KY) connected on base hits for Ohio Christian. The Blazers jumped out with a quick start as they took a 2-1 lead in the first inning.
The OCU defense held tight the rest of the way, surrendering zero runs. Haki Lundy (FR/Cincinnati, OH), Brian Daria, and Trevor Whitesed (JR/Tarlton, OH) all added to the the OCU offensive threat as each stole a base. Whitesed would go on to add a sacrifice fly and an RBI that to add to the OCU lead.
The Blazers added a run in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead and would shutout Clark State the rest of the way to seal the 3-1 victory.
Clark State rallied back in game two to come away with a 7-4 win. David Wright and Tanner Holt (FR/Liberty Township, OH) each went 2 for 4 from the plate in the finale but it would not be enough. The Trailblazers offense showed up big with 9 hits but was unable to take the lead. Clark State used a 5 run inning in the bottom of the 3rd to steal the momentum and hold on for the victory.
OCU(2-19) will take the diamond again on Saturday at 12:00 PM as they host Wright State University-Lake in the 2014 World Missions Baseball Classic. All proceeds from the game will directly benefit upcoming OCU mission trips.
