CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Grant Reynolds continues to lay the foundation for the future of OCU baseball with more additions to the recruiting class of 2014. Reynolds announced another trio of signings this week as Zach Mason, Hunter Day, and Jeff Mefford all signed on the dotted line to continue their baseball careers at Ohio Christian University.
Zach Mason arrives at OCU after completing a successful junior season under Coach Nic Nevius at Pickerington High School North. Zach is an athletic catcher and first baseman with a strong arm and powerful swing. Last year, Zach batted .375 while driving in 28 runs with an .485 on base percentage, striking out only 3 times in 98 plate appearances. On the mound, he had a combined record of 6-2 with school and summer teams. Zach looks forward to a successful senior season with PHSN Panthers and with Coach Bush-Central Ohio Clippers this summer.
Jeff Mefford and Hunter Day come to the Trailblazers after strong prep careers at Springfield High School where they played under Coach Rob Cassell. Mefford was solid on the mound for the Wildcats with a 1.43 ERA in his senior season. In three starts, he stuck out 13 batters in 14 innings of work. At the plate, his 8 RBI and .463 on base percentage were the 2nd best on the team. As a senior he led the team in doubles(3), and triples(2). He also showed his speed on the basepath by swiping 10 bases over the last two seasons.
Hunter Day is a standout shot put and discus thrower that returned to the sport of baseball as a senior at Springfield High School. Hunter came out of the bullpen and had three appearances on the mound for the Wildcats this past season. Day is a gifted all around athlete with a big upside that will look to give the Trailblazers depth on the mound.
