CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Ohio Christian showed up to the field with a sense of urgency on Tuesday night. The Trailblazers came into the game knowing that they needed to win 5 of 6 games in the final week of the season to qualify for the NCCAA Regionals. That sense of urgency helped the Trailblazers start their week off right, with a pair of huge wins.
MacKenna Jennings stepped up big and pitched a pair of complete games as the Trailblazers pulled out a two game sweep of visiting Ohio State University - Newark. The OCU offense showed up big in the opener, giving Jennings seven runs of support in the first game. The OCU defense stifled Newark as Jennings kept the Titan bats at bay, surrendering only one run in a 7-1 victory.
The Trailblazers were able to ride their momentum into the second game as Jennings and the OCU defense would put together a shutout effort. Jennings continued her dominance on the mound and OCU was able to put together another big offensive rally when they needed it. Courtney Teague (SO/Piqua, OH) connected on a bases loaded single to score Rachel Briggs (SR/Buchanan, MI) and Jacci Wright (SO/Utica, OH) as Ohio Christian built a 4-0 lead in the early going.
OCU then loaded the bases and capitalized off of two OSU-Newark fielding errors to add to their lead. The Trailblazers used discipline at the plate, drawing a pair of bases loaded walks as they plated two more runs.
Heading into the fifth inning, Ohio Christian had a comfortable 8-0 lead. Jennings and the OCU defense would once again shut the door on any hopes of a Titan rally. A slow infield grounder proved to be the final out of the game as the Trailblazers secured the 8-0 win in five innings.
With the pair of wins, the Trailblazers are still in contention for a berth in the NCCAA Regional Tournament. OCU is in control of their own destiny as they need to go 3-1 in their final week of the season to qualify for the postseason tournament.
