MARION, IN - Coach Matt Decker is excited to announce the recent addition of Richie Brooks to the Ohio Christian University golf program. Richie comes to the Trailblazers from Marion High School in Marion, Indiana. Brooks signed his letter of intent on Tuesday alongside his coaches and family during a special signing ceremony in Marion. At MHS he was a standout golfer for the Giants under the direction of head coach Mark Hyman.
Brooks has had a breakout senior year thus far in 2014, medaling in two tournament events to date. Richie also shot a personal best this past year at the Meshingomesia Country Club where he scored a round of 74. In August of 2013, Brooks came away victorious in the First Flight Club Championship at Arbor Trace Golf Club. He shot a 77 on his final round at Arbor Trace to erase a two-stroke deficit and win the championship by one stroke.
"Richie is a great golfer and a perfect fit for our institution," states Coach Decker. "This signing gives us a lot of momentum as a program both now and for the future."
Brooks chose OCU over Indiana University-Kokomo and Indiana Wesleyan University, which are both NAIA programs. The incoming freshman plans on studying Criminal Justice this Fall at Ohio Christian.
