CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Ohio Christian University track and field athletes are literally blazing a new trail of their own as they will be heading to the NCCAA Track and Field Championships for the very first time in Rome, Georgia.  The NCCAA National Championships will be taking place this weekend on May 1st and 2nd and will be hosted by Shorter University.

No OCU track and field athlete had previously ever met the qualifying standards for nationals over the course of the three year history of the program.  The 2015 OCU track squad has successfully placed three national qualifiers.

Ian Monaghan (FR/Baltimore, OH) cleared the national qualifying minimum of 6'2 and hopes to improve that mark at Nationals.

Sidney Pell (FR/Peebles, OH) has thrown the shot put nearly 40 feet, surpassing the qualifying standard of 36 feet by nearly four feet. Sidney is ranked in the top 7, with the top 8 earning NCCAA All-American honors. Her throw of 12.07 meters over the weekend placed her right at the top as she finished 2nd overall in a field of 22 competitors.

Sophomore Brian Chandler (SO/Columbus, OH) has recovered from a hamstring injury to come back and qualify to nationals in the 400m run and the 200m run.

Fans can watch all of the live action online through the NCCAA's partnership with Tourbeau Sports Group.  For a small fee you can view the live video stream by clicking HERE.

All three OCU athletes that will be competing are underclassmen.  The future is indeed bright for OCU track and field.
