CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Trailblazers picked up a pair of big wins on Tuesday, defeating Clark State by scores of 13-5 and 5-0. The Trailblazers now stand at 11-18 on the season and have their destiny in their own hands as they seek to qualify for the NCCAA Regionals.
Ohio Christian built a 9-3 lead to open the game and never looked back as they cruised to a 13-5 win. Eric McClure (FR/Lancaster, OH) went 1 for 4 with 4 RBI's. Isaiah Haley (FR/Cincinnati, OH) was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI's. Ethan Skowronski (FR/Cincinnati, OH) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Stephen Wood (FR/Liberty Township, OH) was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Caleb Penney (SO/Columbus, OH) was 2 for 4 with an RBI while Trevor Whitesed (SR/Tarlton, OH) was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Stephen Wood pitched 5.0 innings, striking out 6 batters, and walking one as he gave up 8 hits and 5 earned runs. Danarius Williams (JR/Cincinnati, OH) provided great relief in the final two innings as the hurler tossed 5 strikeouts and allowed zero hits and zero runs to close the door on Clark State.
The Trailblazers went on for the 13-5 win.
The Blazers pulled out a win in the finale by a final score of 5-0 behind a strong pitching effor. Logan Webb (FR/Whitehall, OH) was excellent on the mound as he struck out 15 Clark State batter over 7.0 innings of work. Webb would only allow two hits as he went the distance for the complete game shutout victory.
A Stephen Wood single knocked in Caleb Penney to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead to start the game. Ohio Christian would go on to score three runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run single up the middle by Jayson Perkins (JR/Westerville, OH). The Perkins single was able to plate Isaiah Haley and Stephen Wood.
Ohio Christian added two more runs in the 5th inning as Clark State began to struggle defensively. A trio of Clark State errors led to a pair of runs for the Blazers as they took a 5-0 lead.
Logan Webb then closed out the game, striking out 5 of the last 9 Clark State batters to seal the victory.
The Trailblazers will take the field again on Wednesday as they host Wilmington College at 4:00 PM.
