ADA, OH - The Trailblazers were hosted by Ohio Northern in a meet where 6 states were represented and over 25 colleges had athletes competing. To start off the day Sophomore Ian Monaghan (SO/Baltimore, OH) jumped his PR in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters, placing 8th place. In throws events, Freshman Jared Hostetler (FR/Shelby, OH) had personal bests in both the shot put (11.51m) and weight throw (11.44m). Senior Allison Devore tossed the women's shot 8.52 meters just missing her personal best, while teammate and returning National qualifier, Sidney Pell, tossed a season best 11.84 meters, placing 8th overall which is well over the indoor NCCAA national qualifying standard.
On the track, Freshman Kyle Benecke (FR/Lewis Center, OH) led the charge with a third place performance in the 800m run in a time of 1:59.07, overcoming the indoor NCCAA National qualifying standard. Dylan Newton (SO/Williamsport, OH) placed 12th in the 3000m run, eclipsing his own personal best. Freshman Brock Shick (FR/Marysville) also ran a personal best in the 200m dash after tying his personal best in the 60m dash. Returning from Injury, Brian Chandler (JR/Westerville, OH), ran a time of 53.57 in the 400m dash and 23.61 in the 200m dash. Sophomore Faith Laymen, while battling illness, ran solid performances in the 60m and the 200m dash. Chanel Mcfarlin dropped 13 seconds in the 800m run and came right back with a solid 200m dash. Kara Bandy just missed her personal best in the 3000m run while suffering from tendonitis in her foot.
Coach Eric Hamner stated, "It was a marvelous way to end the indoor season and I hope we can carry this momentum into our outdoor season." The trailblazers will head to Coastal Carolina University for the outdoor opener next weekend.
