BECKLEY, WV - On a hilly course in the middle of West Virginia, the Trailblazer Cross Country teams arrived on Friday ready to run in the inaugural River States Conference Meet. West Virginia Tech hosted the meet this season, and the course was nothing but easy for the runners. Despite being used to running on flatter surfaces throughout the season, both the men and women ran incredibly despite the toughness of the course. Both squads were lead by Ariel Young and Kyle Benecke, who each have had outstanding seasons for their respective teams. Ariel finished in 2nd place overall with a time of 19:34, which was only 18 seconds behind first place finisher Katy Falkenberg of Asbury. Overall, the girls' team would go on to finish in fourth place out of ten total teams with a final time of 1:54:17. For complete team and individual results for the women, click here!

On the men's side, the Trailblazers came together to run a quality time in spite of the difficulty. Kyle Benecke would finish in 8th place overall with a time of 27:46, with Canaan Gardner finishing close behind in 14th place with a time of 28:30. Overall, the men's team would finish in fourth place as well out of the eleven competing teams. For complete team and individual results for the men, click here!

The team will now look ahead to their final race of the 2016 season this upcoming weekend as they travel to compete in the NCCAA Cross Country Championships. This year's tournament will be hosted by Belhaven University at Choctaw Trails in Jackson, MS. Both the men and women qualified for the tournament this season, which is a huge accomplishment for the program.
