RICHMOND, IN - The Ohio Christian University Trailblazers opened River States Conference Play on Saturday with a trip to the NAIA Preseason Top-10 ranked Indiana University East Red Wolves. The Red Wolves and the Trailblazers entered the season as the heavyweights within the conference, with the expectation that one of them will be at the top by the season's end. The game would start out in favor of the Red Wolves, as IU East would take a 36-28 lead into the halftime break. The Trailblazers would not go away, however, as strong performances from Marquis Jackson (19 pts, 17 reb) and Gary Hoover (12 pts, 14 reb) kept OCU in the ballgame until the final few minutes. In the end, the Red Wolves would take the win 70-62. A bright spot off the bench for the Trailblazers was Junior Jalen Hearn, who scored 14 points while shooting 5-8 from the field.
"I am very proud of how our guys fought back. They never gave up," said Head Coach Tony Stockman. "We were down 15 in the second half and down 12 with 12 minutes to go, and we took the lead with 4 minutes to go. We weren't able to finish with a win but we are getting better and playing hard." The Trailblazers will now a small break before another tough matchup on the road at Indiana Wesleyan University next Friday night.
