AKRON, OH - On Wednesday evening, the Lady Trailblazers' basketball squad headed up to Akron to take on the Zips in an exhibition matchup. Not only was the game a good opportunity to receive media coverage for the school, but it also would let OCU see how their talent would stack up against a quality NCAA program. Akron, a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), entered the game with record of 6-4 on the year. The Zips would race out to a quick 14 point lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Trailblazers would respond, outscoring Akron by three in the second quarter. Another big run in the third quarter would expand the Zips lead, leading to a 69-52 victory.

Senior Deshay Thomas led the Lady Trailblazers with 14 points, while Shawntell Parsons followed closely behind with 12. Senior Erinn Bailey scored seven points, while going 5-5 from the free throw line. "We played with a lot of heart tonight and I am very proud of my team," said Head Coach Jamey Batten. "We didn't shoot the ball very well but we took care of the basketball and played aggressively on both ends. Our seniors really stepped up for us tonight and we played with confidence. Deshay and Shawntell both showed their ability to score on the perimeter and Jasmine was very solid for us in the post."
