CIRCLEVILLE, OH - It is official, the Lady Trailblazers are headed to the River States Conference Tournament! Coming into Tuesday evening, OCU knew a win would punch their ticket, but a tough test stood in front of them against 16-9 West Virginia Tech. The Golden Bears had already defeated the Lady Trailblazers earlier in the year, but Tuesday would prove to be a different story. Despite leading by four after the first quarter, the Golden Bears would struggle to defend the rest of the evening, allowing OCU to take a nine point lead into halftime. A strong third quarter would put the game out of reach for West Virginia Tech, leading to a 72-60 win for the Lady Trailblazers.
Deshay Thomas (JR/Reynoldsburg, OH) and Shawntell Parsons (SR/Belpre, OH) led the Lady Trailblazers with 14 points a piece, while Erinn Bailey (SR/Dayton, OH) gathered a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The win puts OCU at 19-8 overall with two games remaining in the regular season (Rio Grande and IU East). "This feels really good," said Head Coach Jamey Batten. "This season has had a lot of up and downs and we have had to reinvent ourselves. We want to take each day as it comes. We have never beat either of the teams left on the schedule, so there is some history on the line. We can't sit back and relax, there is still a lot of work left to do."
