CIRCLEVILLE, OH - On February 3rd, the OCU SportLinc group headed to the Athletes In Action (AIA) headquarters in Xenia, OH for their annual winter retreat. Almost doubling the group that went last year, over 15 members from OCU went wanting to learn how they could further the Gospel through the use of sports. Overall, there were over 150 athletes from different schools in the Mid-East region. The theme of the weekend was "ONE", referring to the oneness of God; one message, one body, one hope. After each session, the athletes split up into small groups to talk about how to apply the lesson to their lives. The weekend also included worship sessions and games.
While at AIA, the students received training on ways to share the Gospel effectively and did an outreach in areas around Xenia. One of the groups went to Wright State with the intention of engaging in conversation with people and sharing the Gospel through an activity called "Soularium". A second group went to a church where they had invited kids from the community, including some from a juvenile detention center. While there, the team played dodgeball and talked with the kids.
Another highlight was being able to have few of OCU's own SportLinc leaders share with other SportLinc campuses about what God is doing at OCU in order to serve as an encouragement to those campuses. Overall, the group was able to connect with God, fellow OCU students, and new friends! "I believe God moved in our hearts this weekend and gave many of us a sense of direction and purpose individually," said SportLinc leader Oscar Castro.
