CIRCLEVILLE, OH - It may be early in 2017, but the OCU Indoor Track and Field Program is already making headlines led by a stellar pair of athletes in Ariel Young and Canaan Gardner. Ariel Young is currently ranked 9th in the NAIA and 4th in the NCCAA with a 5K time of 18:03. Young also runs the 1600 in the  Distance Medley Relay, in which OCU's season record currently holds 8th in the NCCAA. Also headlining the women's side is Zarria Williams and Markie Wippel. Williams is currently 7th in the NCCAA with a long jump of 17'3.25 ft., while Wippel is ranked 14th in the NCCAA in the weight throw with a toss of 12.16m. 


On the men's side, OCU's distance medeley of Kyle BeneckeHayden Mink, Samuel Church, and Canaan Gardner is ranked 11th in the NCCAA with a time of 10:57.19. Overall, Canaan Gardner is ranked 15th in the NCCAA for 5K time, setting a new personal record this season. Other athletes currently being recognized include Jared Hostetler and Ian Monaghan. Hostetler is ranked 21st in the shot put with a toss of 12.19m, while Monaghan is ranked 10th in the high jump coming off of a back injury with a leap of 1.85m. 


"Things are starting to click a little bit in our season schedule and many of these athletes are freshman or sophomores that are responding very well to the training," said Head Coach Eric Hamner. "We are excited to see what we can accomplish at Nationals but our main focus will be on the outdoor season. I am very proud of what they are accomplishing with the gifts the Lord has given them."
