CINCINNATI, OH - The Trailblazers began their postseason swing on Wednesday evening as they traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Eagles from Cincinnati Christian University in the River States Conference Quarterfinals. Despite beating the Eagles early in the season, the Trailblazers knew they would need nothing less than their best to come out on top. The Eagles would come out on fire early on, building a quick 10 point lead shortly into the first half. The Trailblazers would cut down the lead, however, narrowing the deficit to one point headed to halftime.
The second half would start with a huge OCU run, as the Trailblazers would run off 13 straight points to extend their lead to 12. CCU would cut the lead back to under 10 a couple of times, but could not catch up as OCU would run away with the 104-91 win. A large part of the Trailblazers win came from two double doubles by Gary Hoover (SR/Columbus, OH) and Rijnard Hartman (FR/South Africa). Hartman put together a tremendous performance, scoring 18 points while getting 12 rebounds. Hoover added on with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Marquis Jackson (SR/Cleveland, OH) continued his amazing season by scoring a game high 32 points to go along with six rebounds.
"CCU came out on fire," said Head Coach Tony Stockman. "I am very proud of how our team didn't panic and stayed with the game plan. We had six players in double figures and 18 assists, and we played as a team on both ends of the court leading to a total team effort." With the win, the Trailblazers will move on to face IU East, a team that just beat OCU by one point on Senior Day. That game will tip at 3:00 PM EST on Saturday in Richmond, IN. More information will be available on the website later today.
