CIRCLEVILLE, OH - This spring break, the OCU softball program traveled to South Carolina to participate in the 2017 North Myrtle Beach Softball Tournament. Despite facing some tough opponents, the girls were able to gain valuable experience and get two big wins over good opponents. Against Penn State Beaver, the Lady Trailblazers leaned on Lexi Williams (SR/Swanton, OH), who threw seven scoreless innings to lead to the 3-0 victory. That afternoon, the Lady Trailblazers pounced early on Alderson Broaddus, an NCAA Division II University, by scoring seven runs in the second inning behind strong offensive performances from Whitney Fiedler (FR/Brookville, OH), Ashley Hatfield (FR/Columbus, OH), and Christine Moyer (FR/New Carlisle, OH). Fiedler also pitched a great game, tossing six innings, allowing only two earned runs on four total hits. The Trailblazer will now return home as they look ahead to their home opener on March 24th against the University of Rio Grande.

"Going in we were one of few teams that hadn't played yet while other teams had played 8-10 games," said Head Coach David Polly. "Once we got the nerves out of the way and settled down, we played some great softball.  Each game we were competitive at least 5-6 innings, coming up short a couple times in one or two key scenarios.  I feel like we learned a lot about our team and saw some areas to continue to work on that will help us later in our season with conference play."
