CEDARVILLE, OH - The Trailblazers Track and Field Program took the short trip to Cedarville this past weekend to participate in the annual Yellowjacket Invitational hosted by Cedarville University. The day would prove to be successful for OCU, as multiple Trailblazers performed well against quality competition. Freshman Canaan Gardner (FR/Tarlton, OH) started the Trailblazers off right with a 2nd place finish in his first ever 10k in record time. Sophomore Kyle Benecke (SO/Lewis Center, OH) followed suit with a 3rd place finish in the 1500 meter run with a school record. The Women's 4x100, consisting of all freshmen led by Zarria Williams, Madigan Marshall, Brooke Lezotte, and Rachel Lawwell placed 2nd with a new school record. Zarria Williams went on to win the 200m dash with an NCCAA National qualifying time and nipping at the heels of the NAIA qualifying mark. Lawwel finished 8th in the open 400 with the new school record, scoring 8th for the Trailblazers. Ariel Young placed 6th in the 1500m run with a school record. Overall, the women's team placed 11th of 18 teams and the men finished 10th of 17 teams.
"It was a great day to be competing in track and field with an unseasonably warm day," said Head Coach Eric Hamner. "I felt like the team was really tuned in to God today as we just saw so many teammates praying for one another and even other teams. We had several great individual performances and from top to bottom and I am so glad that God entrusted me to lead these young men and women. "
