SHAWNEE, OK - The Ohio Christian University Trailblazers took off for Oklahoma last week in hopes of continuing their impressive season at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Meet. Led by quality leadership on both the men and women's side, OCU came in with little doubt they could make name for themselves throughout the weekend. The men's side would be led by team leader Kyle Benecke. Benecke's weekend would be highlighted by a well run 800 meter race to finish fourth overall and also set a personal record for himself in the process. Overall, the men would finish 19th of 24 overall teams, as the future continually gets brighter for the growing squad.

On the women's side, the leaderboard would be filled with some familiar names along with some new up and coming athletes. Markie Wippel would have a good weekend, placing fifth in the hammer throw with a new personal best. A second freshman that has quickly become a superstar for this team is Zarria Williams. Williams has already had an outstanding season, and continued that success by placing 2nd overall in the long jump with an NAIA "A" standard along with a school record 5.64m jump. The relay squad, comprised of Williams, Madigan Marshall, Brooke Lezotte, and Rachel Lawwell would go on to finish 5th overall in both the 4X100 and the 4X400 meter relays. Finally, team leader and standout Ariel Young would place 2nd overall in the 5,000m race, continuing her amazing first season as a part of the OCU track and field program. In the end, the Lady Trailblazers would finish 7th out of 21 when the weekend was complete.

"This was a big weekend for Ohio Christian University's track team. I am so proud of these girls and everything they have overcome. The oldest person on our trip is a sophomore and we finished seventh at the Christian College National Championships in the fifth year of our program. Kyle Benecke ran a nearly perfect tactical race to place 4th in the 800. The race went out slow but he made the right moves and held on for 4th with a new PR. God is good all the time! We are so grateful and give Him all the glory!" said Head Coach Eric Hamner.
