BLUFFTON, OH - After beginning the season with two losses on the road, the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers entered Friday's matchup against Bluffton looking for their first win of the season to regain their 2016 success. Led by a young group of players, OCU hoped to build off of the progress they saw from their game against Lawrence Tech in order to get past Bluffton.
The game would start off in OCU's favor in a hurry, as a quick goal from Rachel Lawwell nine minutes into the game would set the score at 1-0. Five minutes later, Brooke Lezzote would strike, getting her first goal of the season to make the score 2-0. As time would wind down in the first half, Lawwell would add on another goal to make the score 3-0 at the half. Bluffton would manage to slow down the Lady Trailblazers' offensive attack in the second half, but a strong defensive performance from OCU would lead to the 3-0 victory.
"It was nice to get our first win of the season," said Head Coach Jake Warren. "I thought we performed well in all areas today. I was also happy that we were able to get contributions from our starters as well as our bench.
Overall, the Lady Trailblazers would outshoot the Beavers 15-7 on shots on goal, as well as creating three more corner kick opportunities. Freshman GK Emily Boyd would come in clutch on Friday, saving all seven of Bluffton's shots on goal to preserve the 3-0 shutout. The win now places the Lady Trailblazers at 1-2 with momentum heading into their home opener against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont on Tuesday. That game will begin at 5:00 PM and will be available for streaming through Stretch Internet. Live stats will also be provided through the website.
