Coach Blevins is entering his first year as the Head Coach of the Trailblazers in the 2015-2016 season.
Blevins came to Ohio Christian in January 2008 from Laurel Springs, North Carolina.
“People ask me why in the world would you move to Ohio to go to college and play baseball, usually implying that the weather is no fun. I always have two answers to that question. One, the weather patterns are the same, I grew up in the mountains. Two, I was born and raised in the Churches of Christ in Christian Union, and I had no clue there were any other Christian colleges.” – Coach Blevins
Upon the completion of his four year playing career Blevins was the career leader in several statistical categories, both at the plate and on the mound. Pitching, he is tied for the most career wins with his fellow teammate Brandon Metzgar (10) and second to Richie French (118) for career strikeouts (109). Offensively, Blevins leads in Runs Scored (95), Hits (133), and Career Batting Average (.407).
“When I came to OCU in 2008, I hoped to just be able to make the cut and be able to say I played college baseball. After three months of gym workouts, I was our starting Shortstop and number two in the pitching rotation neither of which had I ever played prior to coming to OCU. I was a twenty-one-year-old freshmen, and had not played baseball since high school; that’s how little talent we had that first year. Throughout my career I was very blessed to squeeze a few hits through the infield and was lucky enough to be on base in front of some great RBI guys.”
Blevins was the first OCU baseball player NCCAA div II All American in 2010, and also received the honor in 2011. He was the recipient of the 2010 Hank Burbridge Unlimited Potential Outstanding Christian Leadership Award one of the highest honors given by the NCCAA. On to of that, the athletic department selected Blevins for their highest honor, the Trailblazer Award, in 2011.
Blevins has been an Assistant Coach for the Blazers since his playing career ended. Now as the Head Coach he is excited to see where God can continue to take the program.
“I was thrilled when Dr. Christman and Mr. Belleman informed me they were taking interim tag off and naming me the Head Coach. I think I am up to the challenge that the NAIA brings, and I am committed to recruiting the high character and highly talented young men that are required to help continue the growth that has been started by my great coaches, and the coaches that I have worked under.”
Coach Blevins, along with heading up the program, is the Senoir Pastor at Beulah Chapel CCCU in Chillicothe. His value on Faith, Character, Honor, and Duty are what will drive His coaching style. Blevins and the Blazers enter the first season in the NAIA as a team who graduated their three best starting pitchers, but returns almost all of its pivotal components on the offensive side. Coming off a 15-20 season, the Blazers are excited for the 2015-2016 season!
